 WGQHA Rules and Regulations for Hi Point Awards and Competition 2009/2010

 Hi Point Allocation

As per the AQHA rules for Hi Point awards in the current Rules and Regulations booklet effective from 1st August, 2008. Section Three (3) - Show Rules, Amateur & Youth regulations, page 11, Section 45.19. (a) to (e). A summary of these rules is as follows:

Champion & Reserve classes & feature/futurity events do not count towards Hi Point Awards

In the case of a tie break, Hi Point awards will be broken by:

The greatest number 1st place ribbons

The greatest number of 2nd place ribbons

The greatest number of 3rd place ribbons

Tabulation of Points

Riders will only get points from date of joining WGQHA

Horse will only get points from the date of owner/s joining WGQHA

Points will not be backdated for any reason (except office errors of WGQHA).

To qualify for a Hi Point Award members must have won a minimum of 5 points in any category for the show year.

It is the responsibility of the members to notify the committee of any changes to their information pertaining to Hi Point issues.

Youth High Point Rules

Must nominate the two horses that they will be riding for the year prior to their first show.  Any change to the combination will only be possible after agreement by the committee.

In the event where 2 horses may be ridden (i.e. reining, western riding and trail), points from the highest placed horse will be tabulated for hi point awards.

Amateur Hi Point Rules

In events where two horses may be ridden (i.e. reining, western riding and trail), points from the highest placed horse will be tabulated for hi point awards.

Improver Rules (apply to Performance

Improver classes are designed for newcomers to the event.  Once an Improver accumulates 15 points overall (points will be carried over each year) they are not eligible for improver status for the future show seasons.  Any improver who accumulates 5 points in any non improver event (ie. Open or Amateur), will automatically relinquish their improver status and become ineligible for Improver Hi Point awards.

Maiden Rules  

Maiden competitors may only compete in relevant maiden events. If a maiden competitor competes in any event other than maiden events they automatically relinquish their maiden status.  Once 10 accumulated points are earned they are no longer eligible to compete in maiden classes at WGQHA shows.                              

A Maiden Rider class is designed strictly for beginner riders with limited riding experience &/or ability. The horses experience or training is not relevant. 

Attire and Tack for Improver and Maiden Classes    

All riers must wear:- long pants or jeans, a long sleeve shirt, boots with a heel (ie: western style boots or jodhpur boots) and a hat or safety helmet.

Approved safety helmets are required for ALL youth under 14, and optional for other riders.

Any bridle/bit is permitted providing it is legal to AQHA rules. (Ask show committee if you are unsure).

Riders may use two hands on reins regardless of bridle.

Any type of saddle is permitted.

No training aids are permitted as per AQHA rules.

Unregistered horses are permitted.

General Rules

Improver Rider/Horse combinations are accepted at the discretion of the committee and will be reviewed at the commencement of each show year.

The committee decision is final.

Youth competitors are not permitted to show stallions in any event with the exception of cutting.
